Dr. Berry is a licensed therapeutic optometrist and Dry Eye Specialist with extensive training in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of ocular disease and dry eye disease. Having personally experienced dry eye disease, as well as having treated thousands of patients suffering from the condition, Dr. Berry has developed a deep passion for helping patients break the chronic cycle of dry eye symptoms. He utilizes sophisticated technology and modern treatment options to develop personalized solutions for each patient's unique needs.
Dr. Berry has been practicing optometry for more than 30 years and specializes in dry eye and ocular surface disease. Originally from South Africa, he received his initial degree in optometry there before earning his Doctor of Optometry degree from the New England College of Optometry in Boston, Massachusetts.
Throughout his career, Dr. Berry has held several distinguished professional roles. He previously served as Department Head of Ophthalmology at Wynberg Military Hospital and as Director of Professional Affairs for a multi-office optometric group. He was also the founder of one of the first optometric-owned Laser Vision Correction Centers in the United States, where he lectured extensively on the clinical care and management of laser vision correction surgery. He was later appointed to the Clinical Advisory Board of TLC (The Laser Center).
While managing more than 10,000 laser vision correction patients, Dr. Berry witnessed firsthand the impact and complications associated with dry eye disease. This experience fueled his passion for treating dry eye and ocular surface disease and ultimately led him to focus his practice exclusively on this important area of care.
Today, Dr. Berry's practice is dedicated exclusively to the diagnosis and treatment of dry eye and ocular surface disease. In addition to his extensive clinical experience, he previously hosted a weekly talk radio show, Vision Today, on a major Washington, DC-area radio station. The program featured discussions on the latest ophthalmic technologies, devices, pharmaceutical innovations, and treatment modalities. Dr. Berry has also been featured as a guest on various television programs.
Dr. Berry developed expertise in specialty contact lens design for patients with cornea and dry eye disease while in general practice.
Dr. Berry is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Maryland Optometric Association. Outside of the office, he is married with adult children, an avid swimmer, and an active community volunteer. He has supported numerous charitable initiatives, including efforts benefiting Komen breast cancer research and awareness.
